Savannahs Nembutsu

What does the hearing of the Nembutsu, while walking for hours around the Hill of Japan, consist? The circumambulation rite starts at night, on a trail in the middle of the wild savanna. Each pilgrim brings only a flashlight, a bottle of water and the Nembutsu he recites. But it is not this Nembutsu that he came to hear. It is another; it is that one from which his is the echo.

  Tai Chi Mind

This state of being, which we can call At-one-ment, is a state where the mind is quiet, the body relaxed and we feel open and connected. This is a natural state, one which we have touched at times in our lives. Most often we are aware of this when we feel part of the magnificence of nature. But we may feel it in the presence of a new born baby, in the first flush of love or sometimes in holy or sacred places.

  Meditation and the Emotions

If we think of meditation merely as a means of training the mind we misunderstand it. There is a danger that meditation becomes as much a mental effort, in trying to control the mind, as the thoughts we are trying to bypass. We can think of meditation less about mental control and more about mental agility. The aim is to get us out of the left hand side of the brain and into the right hand side of the brain.
